Former chairman George Houghton has ruled out making a bid to take over Darlington due to the size of the debts at the football club.
Houghton’s approach was potentially the last opportunity for the Quakers to be saved, with funds running dangerously low despite the exit of all staff.
“It’s the point of no return, it’s gone,” Houghton told BBC Tees.

Forest Green Rovers have signed goalkeeper Sam Russell from Darlington on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
The 29-year-old was released by the Quakers on Wednesday after handing in his notice to the administration-hit club for breach of contract.

Former Darlington chairman Raj Singh has said he is happy to write off the loans he made to the Quakers if a buyer is found for the football club.
Singh, who stood down after he placed the business in administration, said he invested more than £2.5m in the club since taking ownership in 2009.
“I’ll walk away, I’m not expecting a penny back,” Singh told BBC Tees.
“I could make things difficult for the administrators but I won’t. I want the club to survive, to do well.”

Darlington caretaker manager Craig Liddle has said he will not quit his post despite the threat of liquidation lingering over the club.
The administrators have admitted that Saturday’s Blue Square Bet Premier trip to Barrow could be the last, given the Quakers’ precarious financial position.
“It’s not in my nature to quit,” Liddle told BBC Tees.
“I’ll be here to the end. I told the lads I’ll probably be the one to put the lights out if that is the case.”
He added: “The boys have that same mentality, they want to see it through.

“If ultimately the administration purpose, which is to try to sell on and keep people’s jobs and to keep the club going, is not achievable then unfortunately the club will have to go into liquidation.
“I still think I will be here next week, but whether that is as administrator or liquidator, time will tell.”
